Mark-
I recently made some compost tea for my garden and during my research on it, I learned that here in SB the water district uses chloramine, not chlorine for disinfection. I don't know if you are aware of this, but chloramine does not escape from the water like chlorine does when left in an open container. The only thing that works to remove it effectively that I have read about is Vitamin C(ascorbic acid form). Have you heard of this? I mention it to you because if you are making a tea w/ the chloramine still in the H20, the bacteria won't be produced. Food for thought....
Thanks,
Jason

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder how much impact it has... surely some microorganisms reproduce, right? Maybe it's worth getting water from another source, like Lake Los Carneros. Anyway, I couldn't find much on the Goleta Water District website, but one 2007 document says they add Chlorine, but who knows...

Hey, do you think the "placebo effect" works on plants??

I'm sure the tea still contains a fair amount of organisms. Maybe adding a little more molasses would help. If G-town is just using chlorine, then letting it sit out will work fine. Here in SB, I guess I'll just mix in some Vit. C before and that should do the trick. Supposedly the ascorbic acid reacts very quicly w/ the chloramine. As for the placebo effect, yea I think plants are fairly gullible;).
